The exhibition DIVINE with new works by Berlin artist Susanne Rikus takes us into a sacred space. Her current art reflects the divinity in man and invites us to reconnect with it.

About

Photographic works show female figures that the artist noticed while roaming the city of Rome and which she intuitively captured in snapshots:
Women striding through a strong incidence of light into a church, the concentrated telephone conversation of a young woman on the street, Bernini's naked, almost enraptured allegory of "Truth, Daughter of Time" in the Galleria Borghese. The connecting lines from ancient to contemporary Rome are embodied in the photographs by figures of triumphant goddesses and allegories that hover like guardians high above the rooftops of the city and are usually not even noticed. In this way, Susanne Rikus impressively demonstrates the presence of the feminine in the city of Rome between heaven and earth.

These motifs are complemented by photographs of female figures from antiquity that the artist captured in Greece and in the collection of antiquities at the Altes Museum in Berlin. Three of these, a caryatid, a dancer and a figure of the goddess Aphrodite, are transformed into three free-standing, backlit spatial works using the transfer technique she developed. She processes and abstracts each photograph until the essence becomes visible and emerges from the acrylic glass background to meet us in life-size: Grace and dignity, but also lustful ectasy, strength and lightness can be recognized and felt through the women's bodies. Susanne Rikus wants to remind visitors to the exhibition of this feminine, forward-looking power, to share and celebrate it with them.
