About
Jonathan Anderson, one of the world’s most innovative and critically acclaimed contemporary fashion designers, responds to Wakefield’s impressive collection of modern British art in this major new exhibition that explores the human form in art, fashion and design.
In collaboration with 6a architects, Anderson’s exhibition unfolds a series of contrasting experiences. Figurative sculptures by artists including: Jean Arp, Louise Bourgeois, Lynn Chadwick, Naum Gabo, Barbara Hepworth, Sarah Lucas, Henry Moore, Magali Reus and Dorothea Tanning will be brought into dialogue with fashion pieces by designers such as Christian Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier, Rei Kawakubo of Commes des Garçons, Helmut Lang and Issey Miyake. Design and craft items include ceramics by Hans Coper and lamps by Isamu Noguchi.
The personal selection is shaped by Anderson’s long-standing passion for modern art (from the mid-20th century) and the underlying questions of gender that have been posed by his own fashion collections.
