With the rise of the digital amateur, photo sharing, and crowdsourcing, the line between “creative” stock, editorial news, and family vacation photography has blurred. DIS works within these conditions of hyper circulation, prosthetic memory, and the overproduction of images—combining tags to create heightened configurations of reality. Becoming Genre re-presents media incidents that have become everyday tropes, exploring how photography softens reality, turning our economic, political, cultural, and emotional landscape into saleable products that are representational yet infinitely versatile.
