About
The Anatomy of Place brings together a body of work by Dinu Li spanning over a decade. Li spins a dialogue over three spaces, opening a space to consider interlacing histories, memories and the essence of place. Spread across three units, Li weaves together Super 8mm, video, photography, animation, performance, found images, personal archives and a newly created sculptural assemblage. The film series and accompanying environments look at how knowledge, rituals and ideologies move between places.
Born in Hong Kong, Li was raised in a neighbourhood internationally recognised for its bustling street markets. Li has restaged The Anatomy of Place work in acknowledgement of Birkenhead Market, a former focal point of Merseyside’s commerce.
This exhibition is part of LOOK Photo Biennial 2019, a season of new photography from UK and China taking place across Liverpool, The Wirral and Shanghai. Delivered by Open Eye Gallery.
