Diego Mallo Open Studio

About

Diego Mallo was selected from a number of artists based at La Escocesa Studios in Barcelona who were interested in spending time here in Salford. On looking at his work we felt that there was a certain synergy between his work and two of our very successful Islington Mill artists, Rachel Goodyear and Alison Erika Forde. Diego specialises in painting, drawing, sculpture, serigraphy and animation with his modus operandi remaining the same - he uses daily life to dig deep without mercy into the human soul, into the dubious values of our society and the paradoxes of contemporary reality. Through this exploration he creates borderline characters which he himself describes as 'fragile characters, some completely broken, confronted with the senselessness of their emotional anaesthesia and involved in their everyday perversions without being aware of having chosen.' Diego is currently working on completing an ambitious large scale animation on our derelict 5th floor project space. Diego will be having an Open Studio on Thursday 1st March 1:30-3:30pm and Friday 2nd March 6:30-7:30pm on the 5th Floor of Islington Mill. Susie MacMurray's stunning installation Stratum will also be open during these times. For more information on Diego's work visit: www.diegomallo.com
