About

‘Dialectical Materialism: Aspects of British Sculpture since the 1960s is a subtle and thought-provoking exhibition that cuts into what is a huge subject through a closely edited selection of works, offering an intriguing cross-sectional slice through British sculpture’s vibrant life, past and present.’ - Dr Jon Wood, Curatorial Advisor

This exhibition, coinciding with Frieze London 2019,  brings together a group of sculptors: Anthony Caro, William Turnbull, Barry Flanagan, Alison Wilding, Richard Long and Rachel Whiteread. It has been selected by the eminent gallerist and writer Karsten Schubert, who has represented and supported national and international contemporary artists for over thirty years.

These works demonstrate the fundamental changes brought about in sculpture in the early 1960s, when sculpture was liberated from the plinth, thus allowing sculpture to use space with a new freedom.

This move radically changed the face of British Sculpture, and the works in this exhibition exhibit the broad and imaginative range of expressions that this freedom from historical restriction offered.

The exhibition will run in a former Victorian riding school just 60 yards from Regent's Park and Frieze Masters.
