DEATH at x-church
Exhibition: 27 Feb-28 March 2015

For the Burroughs Machine's second show, they have set upon the big powerful theme of Death. This takes inspiration from Philip Larkin's poem Aubade "I work all day, and get half-drunk at night... Unresting death, a whole day nearer now". Given Larkin's own predilection for visiting Churches, it seemed an appropriate theme for the x-church space.

Barney (retired Paul Smith shop designer)
‘Slip,Slap, ‘long Ball ethics”, “half wheeling” Crystal City antiques, Selected advice from past greats (via a suitable medium), forensic flotsam, words- a dying art, inert still lives ….. Seek and ye shall find, - it could be the death of us all!

Sam (technician/plasterer)
Interested in time and history...works evolve over many years (some of the works in the show began at Goldsmiths' College in 1989) and are often over-painted, cut up and reassembled many years later with a different twist, gaining meaning and evolving along the way. The works chosen for the show have a common theme of death, fate, superstition, the search for meaning, and are inspired by parables, poetry and philosophy.

James (IT technician)

Imagine games where more like real life; you get one crack at it, it's hard, and you have to make tough decisions. Do you explore the world, do good deeds, destroy anything that's in your way or collect as much money as possible before your time is up? In the end all that's left is what's written on your tomb stone, what will yours say?
