Messum’s long relationship with David Tress gives offers us the unique opportunity to present a very special group of over thirty works which will be on view at the Messum's Studio in Marlow, by appointment.

About

With foreign travel all but impossible, our local climate, history and geographical diversity have provided solace to a new generation who may never have encountered being drawn to a place time after time. David Tress’s lifelong commitment to landscape painting enables him to connect not only with his own memories of each place but also with the deep past of the land and portray the ‘Landscape as Experience’. The wonderful freshness and vigour, combined with a sense of the ancient and enduring, is characteristic of his personal vision and the viewer’s experience. It is unsurprising that he is widely regarded as one of our most inventive Modern Romantic painters and has won an enviable reputation for both quality and integrity.

This exhibition at Messum’s Studio moves around the British Isles with the artist from the rocky coastlines of Pembrokeshire to the west coast of Scotland and its extraordinary light, across the Yorkshire Moors and then south, exploring the sacred landscapes marked by Neolithic burial mounds and medieval pilgrim routes through Wiltshire and onwards to Cornwall.
