Palais de Tokyo invites one of the most important Croatian artists, David Maljković, who has chosen to confront us with a present that cannot be defined.

About

He explores the effects of time – be it historical time, technical time, or the time of the work itself – and puts them into action. In such relationships and gaps, the erosion of memory and the corruption of information are exposed, thus confronting the visitor with the wearing down of meanings as well as the destabilisation of feelings.

For his exhibition at the Palais de Tokyo, entitled In Low Resolution, David Maljković has conceived an ambivalent setup. Two plinths have been expanded until they become actual platforms. The platforms obscure the spaces as much as they reveal them, suggesting at once burial and excavation.

The titles of some of his works evoke a temporality “post-”, of long duration, and a hazy historicity: AfterformA Long Day for the FormUndated, for examples. Among other procedures David Maljković unfolds reproduction and dissemination techniques by playing off their discrepancies. The exhibition “In Low Resolution” explores individual memory and the collective imaginary as much as the temporality and representation of the experience.
