About
Born Fife, 1956. Studied Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and MA at Royal College of Art graduating in 1982. Numerous awards and scholarships and in 1998 elected Royal Academician. Since 1981 solo exhibitions throughout the world including Tate Gallery, National Museum of Victoria (Australia) and Cincinnati Museum and Art Gallery. In 1997 the largest public sculpture, 'Train', made from bricks, was unveiled in Darlington and in 1999 the National Portrait, a 78 metre mural, was completed for the Dome in London. Since 1995 he has been exhibiting his drawings and collages at Jill George Gallery.Recent projects include; major exhibition at Glasgow Museum of Modern Art in 2002, touring to Museum of Contemporary Art in Rome, a large installation in the courtyard of the Royal Academy for the 2002 Summer Show. In 2006 he was elected to the board of the National Portrait Gallery and was the selector for the Summer Show at the Royal Academy. The postcard collages are shown at the solo exhibition at Jill George Gallery in October 2006.
