On 10 February 2014 Arts & Culture Minister Ed Vaizey MP visited the Darren Baker Gallery to view Darren Baker’s latest exhibition, and launch the fundraising campaign for Alan Mak to become the next Conservative MP for Havant in Hampshire.

Addressing an audience of over 100 senior figures from the arts, business, politics, civil society and media, Ed Vaizey praised Darren Baker’s latest exhibition of portraits. Ed Vaizey also highlighted Alan Mak’s commitment to supporting Britain’s arts and culture sector if elected as one of the country’s youngest MP.

Ed Vaizey, Arts Minister said, “Alan Mak will be an outstanding MP for Havant. I’ve known Alan for 10 years, and his personal story, track record of real-world commercial experience, and commitment to community work, will make him a great local champion and strong voice for Havant. I’m delighted to launch Alan’s fundraising campaign at the Darren Baker Gallery, and look forward to seeing Darren’s work.  I am proud that our future MPs like Alan are committed to supporting our vibrant world-class arts sector.”

Darren Baker, Royal Artist and Founder, Darren Baker Gallery said, “I’m honoured and delighted that Ed Vaizey is here at my latest exhibition. Our Gallery showcases both established artists and new talent. I’m also delighted to hostAlan Mak’s fundraising campaign launch. He will be an excellent MP. We need a new generation of young, dynamic MPs supporting arts in Britain and working hard for their constituents. Alan will do all that and more.”

Alan Mak, Conservative MP Candidate for Havant said, “I’m passionate about the power of arts and culture to transform lives and communities. Darren Baker and Ed Vaizey are two inspirational leaders in the arts world, and I couldn’t ask for more passionate supporters as I launch my fundraising campaign for May’s general election.”
