A multidisciplinary art exhibition exploring living life with mental illness, in support of the mental health charity Rethink.

About

This year for world mental health day 2021, Basingstoke shopping centre Festival Place will be hosting a joint exhibition by long time collaborating artists Laura Greenway and Carlie Simpkin. From the 9th – 15th October these UCA graduates will be showcasing a selection of works that delve into their own experiences with mental illness, allowing the public an exclusive look into their inner psyches. After the unprecedented events of the past 18 months, and with social isolation and health anxiety becoming our new normal, it is more important than ever that we try and take care of our mental health. In addition to practicing self-care, one of the best ways to look after our minds is to talk about our experiences and anxieties, but with a topic that can so often be considered taboo this can be harder than anticipated. Simpkin and Greenway’s exhibition aims to challenge these stigmas and get conversations started about a topic that is so essential and much needed. The exhibition, which is popping up in an empty unit of the shopping centre, will house a range of works in a multitude of disciplines ranging from photography, print work and sculpture to video and even live performance.
