With pictures of the civil rights movement, prison inmates in Texas, and the Chicago Outlaws motorcycle club, American photographer and documentary filmmaker Danny Lyon became an important chronicler of racial struggle and social themes in the United States.
In the tradition of Walker Evans and Robert Frank, his works shaped the spirit of the New Journalism and Street Photography with its absolute realism.
This comprehensive retrospective on the oeuvre of Danny Lyon is presented by C/O Berlin together with the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, New York’s Whitney Museum of American Art, and Fotomuseum Winterthur. The exhibition shows the most important photographic series from the late 1960s and 1970s and the less well-known filmic work.
