[DANCEROULETTE], Roulette’s contemporary dance program, returns with the New Movement Series curated by dancer and choreographer Jennifer Lafferty.
About
Curator Jennifer Lafferty convenes 15 of contemporary dance’s most exciting players for February’s annual [DANCEROULETTE] series at Roulette. The New Movement Series features 15 artists presenting experimental work in dance and choreography. This week-long performance series features three artists per night, each with a unique approach to performance, composition and dance. Highlights include Foundation for Contemporary Arts 2016 grant recipient Larissa Velez-Jackson performing YackMan Study No 1, Emily Wexler performing a continuation of Hunter, which premiered during [DANCEROULETTE]'s fall lec/dem series, and former Issue Project Room artist-in-residence Moriah Evans.
Southern California native Jennifer Lafferty studied dance at University of California, Los Angeles. A frequent contributor to Roulette’s contemporary dance programming, Lafferty previously curated [DANCEROULETTE]’s Five x Three series, which premiered last February.
Roulette’s ongoing [DANCEROULETTE] series reflects the commitment to presenting experimental dance that we’ve held since our founding in 1978, particularly the collaborative efforts of composers and choreographers exploring the relationship between sound and movement, choreography and composition. Roulette’s move to Brooklyn in September 2011 has enabled us to initiate a regular season of [DANCEROULETTE] presentations, which now hosts nearly 40 performances yearly.
