Dancer and choreographer Kyli Kleven curates the first of three lec/dem nights as part of Roulette’s ongoing [DANCEROULETTE] series.
About
Roulette’s storied [DANCEROULETTE] series continues with the first of three lec/dem performances curated by NYC-based dancer and choreographer Kyli Kleven. Shorthand for Lecture Demonstration, “lec-dem” is a type of performance put on by dance teachers and their students. Often thematic, Lecture Demonstrations involve demonstrating dance repertoire interspersed with brief explanation. Roulette’s lec/dem series is an open opportunity for dancemakers’ words to exist beyond talk backs and artist statements -- a simple proposal that allows words and actions to coexist literally and texturally.
Dance artist Mariana Valencia will present a 25 minute solo performance entitled Desert Water. Invented near Joshua Tree, California, Desert Water is based on Valencia’s experiences and writings. Valencia is currently an Artist-in-Residence at ISSUE Project Room and a Jerome Travel and Study Grant Fellow.
