Eastern Europeans for Dummies: Is it about Sex Trafficking?
Dana Olarescu and Bojana Jankovic 19:00, FRIDAY 25TH NOVEMBER
At a time when the western world ploughs its efforts into dealing with the financial crisis, the influx of the bizarre species of Eastern Europeans have gone almost unnoticed. The performance is formed as a museum piece, led by the narration of a museum guide and taking a lead from books such as How to Speak English in Two Weeks and â¦For Dummies, where the audience is thrown into the context of an anthropology lecture, albeit rather ironic and contemporary, with the viewers drawn in as avid yet endangered learners.
The spectators are taken on a voyage of understanding, ranging from essential survival tips when around Eastern Europeans (including tips specific to the various sub-species) to important information on how to disrupt their deviant ways (notably jobs and freebies). The finale is a life and death contest between the two over the passing of a residency who will triumph and how? Bordering on offence and comedy, the performance blends facts with satire using the widely held preconceptions as a door into failed multiculturalism.
