Art in the Underbelly Presents: Dan Tombs, 'Lazer Paisley'

About

Dan Tombs is a digital artist based in Norwich who works professionally as a VJ, DJ, Video Artist and Photographer. He has produced work for MTV, Output Recordings, Border Community, ArtAngel, EAST international and the University of East Anglia amongst others. He has also performed VJ sets at The Big Chill, Nachdigital (DE), Bozar (BEL) Cargo, Corsica Studios, Melkweg (NL), Luxorlive (NL) amongst others. His work has been exhibited in the UK, Europe, US and Japan. His recent video work has seen him produce videos for Nathan Fake, Luke Abbott and Walls. For this show he will be producing work that draws on his experiences and interactions with the artificial lighting and lasers utilised by clubs and VJ's. Focusing on these laser beams, the work will explore the overlapping of colours and lights through the eye of a Russion Lomo LCA camera. Once captured, the images will be digitally warped and contorted into Benday Dot patterns and then printed on double sided flyers by commercial printers and ‘fly-posted' straight onto sections of the walls in the Underbelly. The opening night will also feature a DJ set from the artist, showcasing the music that inspires him and he will be joined by long-time collaborator, Luke Abbott.
