Beaches, coast and harbours of Wales feature heavily in The Albany Gallery’s latest exhibition of new work from Dai David, Peter Morgan and Robert Sawtell.  All three have very different painting styles but have drawn on their love of the Welsh coast to inspire them to create a stunning selection of paintings.

Dai David, has two painting styles – David which focuses on Impressionism, celebrating the wonder of light filled scenes and Dai which explores a more expressionistic path and is often combined with his passion of music.  "In Dai’s eyes, quirky, whimsical figures exist in fun, joyous situations. Dai's guys like to have fun! My artistic hero is Picasso with his freedom of expression and multi styled work. For me, it's this liberated way of seeing the world that keeps my vision refreshed and alive.”

Much of Peter Morgan’s latest body of work comes from his travels, often sketching the surroundings he observes.  He said: “This is evident in the series of paintings I have done through the year. There is a special quality to a land that is surrounded by the sea. The hidden farm house, the rugged weather worn hills, cliffs and beaches are a constant source of inspiration, as are the small ports and harbours that dot the coast.”

Robert Sawtell grew up on the Welsh border and has always had a yearning for the coast and sea.  “This new series of paintings predominantly focuses on Pembrokeshire coast and harbours, including the coastal farmlands of Wales in springtime and summer. These paintings are based on the many study drawings I have made when visiting the coast. Birds, particularly Gannets, also play a large part in the love I have for this landscape.  The series is about the contrast of the warmer colours of inland Welsh landscape to the starker tones of the rocky cliffs and sea. The sea sculpts the land through the waves and the south-westerly storms that buffet the coast.”
