In their first joint solo exhibition, artists Cécile B. Evans and Yuri Pattison are interested in the designer couple Ray and Charles Eames' legendary collaboration with the computer company IBM.

About

The idea: The artists design an IBM pavilion for the 1964 New York World’s Fair, by putting together an exhibition, producing a film and creating the appropriate graphics, signs and spaces for this new habitat with computers.

The questions behind it: What does social life look like when influenced by new technologies? What connects Man and Machine? Centrepiece of the pavilion became the oversized film ‘Think’, broadcast on 22 screens, proposing digital solutions for very complex but also simple everyday questions; ranging from sitting arrangements for an evening meal to urban planning.

This gigantic project has been picked up again by Cécile B. Evans and Yuri Pattison. For the exhibition at Helga Maria Klosterfelde Edition they have redesigned three plexiglass chairs from the Eames Office and given it a contemporary reworking. Chairs have become living sculptures, like back in the 60s, with screens, films and graphics. The question, Evans and Pattison are asking, is the same as the one half a century ago: how do we, you and I, want to live in the future?
