About

Cycles of Brass aims to foster a reflection on the resilience, vulnerability and transient nature of brass music culture throughout history, by making visitors experience first-hand an accelerated decay and rejuvenation of staple brass instruments. This installation will explore the materiality of brass instruments and the aesthetics of their exposure to time and to the elements. The piece will consist of aquariums filled with water and chemicals, inside of each a discarded brass instrument will be submerged. Throughout the 3 months of the exhibition, the instruments will be exposed to cycles of electrochemical processes. These processes will be sonified in real time, linking the transformation of the instruments to the acoustic realm for which they were initially created.
