CURVE GALLERY opens its Liverpool Biennial programme with an exhibition featuring new work from Dave Penny, Thomas Williams and Lisa Who. The exhibition will showcase photography, painting, sculpture and printmaking. Dave Penny is an artist and lecturer in photography at Manchester Metropolitan University.Work in Progress was made with the traditional still life painting in mind. The subjects of the photographs are simple things found around the domestic space: attention is bought to the overlooked, placing value on that which is often quiet or un-noticed. Thomas Williams paints with colour suspended in translucent media, floated onto canvass and randomized by gravitational drag. His practice plays with gesture as a tradition in abstraction, supplementing the brush with rhythms initiated by physical forces. Lisa Who is an artist and the creative director of Curve Gallery. Bold images are often derived from human and architectural forms, where the collective image becomes a visual map for remembering place.
