About
Join us for a lunchtime talk with artist Shannon Ebner and Stuart Comer, to coincide with Ebner's solo exhibition at Sadie Coles HQ, The Electric Coma.Shannon Ebner's work investigates the correlations between photography and language. Informed by various modes of writing-including poetry, experimental writing, and political speech-Ebner constructs images in the studio as well as finding them in the urban landscape. Using materials such as cardboard, wood, and cinder blocks, she calls attention to the ways in which language and imagery are constructed
Her recent solo exhibitions include Wallspace, New York (2013); The High Line, New York (2013); Language is Wild at Dia Art Foundation (Artist Web Project), New York (2012) and Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2011). Group exhibitions include Ecstatic Alphabets/Heaps of Language, Museum of Modern Art, New York (2012); MARCH, Sadie Coles HQ, London (2012); September 11, MoMA PSA, Long Island City, NY (2012).
Stuart Comer is the Chief Curator of Media and Performance at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. He is also co-curator of the Whitney Museum of American Art: 2014 Biennial. He was formerly Curator of Film at Tate Modern.
This talk will coincide with Ebner's solo exhibition, The Electric Coma, at Sadie Coles HQ, which will be followed by a residency and a solo show at Fondazione Memmo, Rome in 2014.
