About
Karen’s work Apophyllite IV 2011, Apophyllite VI2011 and Rose Quartz Station 2018 is on display within our Liquid Crystal Display exhibition which ends 16 June. The work examines human fascination with crystals as objects of desire. Apophyllite and rose quartz are used, minerals that are associated with healing power in contemporary western culture. In Apophylite IV and Apophyllite VI, the white, gleaming apophyllite rests on top of an inverted triangular-shaped canvas which references a mystical symbol. Rose Quartz Station shows the emotional and financial investment made in earthly objects due to a believe in their otherworldly meaning. The sleek display stand is associated with high-end retail environments. This plinth protets the precious stone and heightens its desirability as a consumer material with magical properties.
