About
In January 2019, Chouvellon began his residency in collaboration with Show Gallery in Los Angeles and created a body of work that will open on February 12th.
Chouvellon is a visual artist who is well known in France and internationally for his large-scale sculptural installations who works with a variety of mediums to create sculptures, video installations, and photographs. Cruising On Empty, is an ongoing work in progress inspired by Los Angeles: its roads, its coastlines, its typography, and the juxtaposition between the industrial landscape and the entertainment industry. For this exhibition he has created site-specific installations, video, and photography.
Chouvellon is inspired by the culture of the Californian “road trip”, which serves as the central theme in his work. This is in line with his field of exploration which is situated on the boundary of urban space and its outskirts (territorial, social and human). Through the practice of walking (or in the case of Los Angeles by car), he navigates peripheral roads, motorways, coastlines, and rivers. All these states of the contemporary world are documented, photographed, recorded, and filmed.
