Crossing Borders - 25th Oct : Gill Clarke

About

Independent Dance's series of talks continues with dance artist Gill Clarke.

Expanding the Frame

'We are in continuous movement, acting upon and responding to our environment. It is the means through which we learn, make sense of, and create new meanings within the world of which we are a part.'
Dance artists are increasingly tuning their attention to the sensing of movement as it unfolds in the moment as a resource for their own art-making. Gill Clarke will explore how their investigations chime with developing interests in other fields, particularly the social sciences. and will argue that this movement expertise is a currency that could be making a broader cultural contribution beyond resourcing the art work that they make.

Short Biography:
Educated in English and Social Sciences, Gill Clarke has spent her career as an independent dance artist - performer, teacher, movement researcher. She was a founder member of the Siobhan Davies Dance Company and co-directs Independent Dance with Fiona Millward.
She is currently leading the PAL trans-disciplinary Lab 'Movement and Meaning' and working with visual artist Lucy Skaer on a work for Siobhan Davies Commissions at the Bargehouse in November.
