About
Karavil Contemporary is pleased to announce the inaugural, UK show of Turkish artist Ihsan Oturmak. Cross Fire will be opening on 28th May. The exhibition will show a body of paintings, mixed media and sculptures that is concerned with exploring the changing culture and traditions the artist experienced growing up in a drastically changing Turkish society. Using found photographs from bygone eras, particularly from military institutes and schools, Oturmak transports these images in paint onto canvas and board. Despite the influence from the changing Turkish culture Oturmak still focuses on exploring the nuances of basic human behaviour and group psychology that remain universally unchanged; fall outs and friendships, power struggles, the awkward nature of growing up and learning about oneself, all of which are intensified by their play out within an institution. The opening will be held between 6 - 8PM on the 28th May at Karavil Contemporary’s London space in Fitzrovia.
