About
Creek Dreams – Remnants of a Former Life is SEAGER’s latest exhibition and event series as part of the London Borough of Culture 2022 – We Are Lewisham programme. Located close by Deptford Bridge, between the babbling water of Deptford creek and the mechanical drone of the A2, the exhibition space at SEAGER will be used to showcase the work of two artists, Victoria Rance and Madi Acharya-Baskerville, who respond directly to the local environment of the gallery.
As the Borough of Culture for 2022, Lewisham seeks to inspire climate action through a diverse program of cultural events. Seager’s Creek Dreams brings local environmental concerns to the forefront of visitors’ minds through a multi-disciplinary exhibition that draws attention to the established yet fragile ecology of Lewisham’s renowned Deptford Creek.
The creek is one of the most bio-diverse environments in London and is one of the only remaining sites where the natural edges of the river partly remain. At low tide, tangled amongst the watery habitat, human detritus can be seen poking out from the river bed. The artworks in the show draw on the aesthetics of what may be found in the creek, resembling sculptural relics from a fluid time.
