CRAZY OVER YOU: New paintings by Charles Thomson

About

CRAZY OVER YOU: New paintings by Charles Thomson Charles Thomson has been actively protesting against the proliferation of conceptualism in contemporary art since 1999 when he and Billy Childish co-founded the STUCKISM movement. Stuckism has since gone on to become a popular art movement worldwide with over 200 groups in over 50 countries around the world. In 2004 the British Stuckists held a major exhibition of figurative artworks at the Walker art gallery in Liverpool. Stuckists have actively protested the Turner Prize and the unveiling of conceptualist art objects on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square. The group has featured in many notable books and documentaries, and Thomson has debated Stuckist beliefs both on Newsnight and at the Oxford Union. The paintings on display at CRAZY OVER YOU represent Thomsons most up-to-date take on figurative art, and see the artist confronting major events in his life with iconic and metaphorical imagery immersed in bursts of colour. CRAZY OVER YOU: New paintings by Charles Thomson opens Saturday, June 7 at the Trispace Gallery.
