About
Crafting Resistance supports Lambda Legal in their mission to advocate for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Community as well as everyone living with HIV. Through the sale of handmade ceramics, Crafting Resistance stands with the LGBT community marching forward toward equality despite anti-LGBT policies, appointments, and political agendas highlighted by the current administration. This small step, coinciding with the NYC Pride March, is an effort toward building a future without discrimination.
Crafting Resistance’s inaugural fundraiser for the American Civil Liberties Union was held at Greenwich House Pottery on April 2nd. The artist group raised $25000 which was donated to the ACLU’s Immigrants Rights Project. Over 1100 ceramic works were donate from over 200 artists from New York and regions beyond. The overwhelming response prompted the group to continue the resistance and support other national and local organizations. A strong desire to create meaningful change permeates the city, Spoke Art Gallery generously volunteered their space to the group in order to keep the momentum rolling. The gallery will showcase handmade functional and sculptural items generously donated by artists in support of equality for all.
Crafting Resistance promotes community building among a broad group of artists and individuals to create a better future by encouraging positive social change, while generating opposition to discrimination of all kinds. A future sale to help protect the environment will be held at BKLYN Clay, September 17th with donations to the NDRC and GrowNYC.
