CPD training and Creative Play with Children with SEND

About

Led by artist educators Katriona Beales and Ali Eisa, you'll learn about the development and application of creative play methods in working with children and young people with SEND. Hands-on training in creative play activities will take place in Katriona's participatory installation As We Are But Not As You Know Us, including the use of green screen technology delivered through an iPad.

The session will end with reflection and group discussion on key benefits and challenges arising from creative play methods, and working with children with SEND.

This CPD session is best suited for Primary and Secondary school teachers; artist educators; arts professionals; Learning and Engagement teams in art, culture and heritage; and youth and community professionals.

ABOUT KATRIONA BEALES

Since Katriona received workshop leader training with Creative Partnerships in 2006, she has worked extensively as an artist educator and workshop leader.

She have a wealth of experience, particularly in working with SEND, KS4 and 5 students and excluded young people from pupil referral units. She was one of the Tate's Artist Workshop Leaders (2013-14), leading SEND workshops as well as primary and secondary school workshops in response to the collections at Tate Britain and Tate Modern.

Katriona was the lead artist on South London Gallery’s Supersmashers project (2013-15) looking after children aged 6-12 years old in partnership with social services and carers. Other Clients include Frieze Foundation, SPACE, Bow Arts Trust, Dulwich Picture Gallery, CIM at the University of Warwick, Camberwell School of Art, Havering College, Birkbeck University, Tate Liverpool, Aspire Trust, Liverpool Art and Design Academy, the Bluecoat, and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic.

She has developed and led Autograph's Family Workshops for Children with SEND since 2019.

Katriona's artwork has been exhibited internationally, most recently at the V&A and Science Gallery London (both 2018). Her interdisciplinary project Are we all addicts now? supported by The Wellcome Trust and Arts Council England, was shown at Furtherfield, London (2017). She received an MA from Chelsea College of Arts and have an artist profile on Rhizome.org. www.katrionabeales.com 

ABOUT ALI EISA

Ali is one half of the Learning and Participation team at Autograph. He is an artist and educator, who has been working for Autograph since 2015.

His background includes social circus, community arts and youth work with organisations including South London Gallery, Hounslow Action on Youth and Albert & Friends Instant Circus. Ali is lecturer in Fine Art at Goldsmiths and exhibits nationally and internationally as part of collaborative project Lloyd Corporation.

He coordinates Autograph’s education programme, producing interactive workshops and events for a diverse audience to engage with Autograph’s exhibitions and photographic archive. He studied at Goldsmiths, University of London and graduated with BA Fine Art and MA Visual Sociology.

TICKETING POLICY

Autograph's events are popular, and often sell out. We cannot guarantee that tickets will be available on the door, and recommend booking a ticket in advance. If you need to cancel your ticket for any reason, you can receive a refund up to 24 hours before the start of the event. Concessions tickets are available for students, those on low income, and 65+. Seating is not reserved in advance, and is on a first-come first-seated basis. You do not need to bring your paper ticket to the event.
