Reading Group with Ami Clarke
Our Reading Group continues with artist and writer, Ami Clarke. Join us for three sessions, where visitors are invited to read and discuss together several texts, as we consider how our interactions with evolving technologies inflect and impact upon how we communicate with each other.
We will focus on how our use of language, central to tenets of reason and self-expression, reveals a subjectivity that has become deeply entangled within the protocols of platform capitalism, that typically include companies such as Facebook, Twitter, Amazon, Google, and others. We can see how participation with social media platforms that are designed to facilitate exchange and social activity, is bought for free only through extensive data analysis of the quantifiable self. Join us as we untangle an evolving subjectivity that emerges from a culture of psychological profiling and targeting, within an overwhelming economy of surveillance, amidst other market relations.
The Reading Group is a free, informal group, open to all ages. All reading material will be provided ahead of the sessions, so participants are able to read the texts beforehand.
