In this new course will focus on learning and analysing music through drawing and singing.

About

Music and art share a common descriptive language - but how helpful are shared terms when seeking to understand the other art form?  For example, what does shape mean in each instance?

Over 3 evening sessions we will focus on learning a song by William Cornysh (1468-1523) through musical and drawing exercises. We will look for commonality and equivalence - listening and finding visual form for elements within the music, and consider musical ideas in relation to drawings.

The sessions will talk about structure, harmony and rhythm over the evening, exploring more specific related ideas. Through playful musical construction and deconstruction we will use our ears and eyes to understand music in greater depth. We will also see how our own artistic decisions can impact the narrative of a piece.

Weaving between our aural and visual senses we will learn the music and analyse parts of it. The sessions will include drawing and singing*, however they are designed for everyone to join in. You do not need to be a musician or artist - just have a keen interest in music (in any of it's forms) and drawing. We expect that the course will be of interest to: musicians, composers, drawers, artists, designers, music lovers.

The course is co-designed by and will be led by musician Lorena Canto Wolteche and artist Luci Eyers

*If you are physically unable to sing, you are more than welcome to bring your own instrument. If you would like to discuss these options don't hesitate to get in touch with Lorena: lcwiola@gmail.com
