On the occasion of Pride Month in Madrid, the Spanish artist Daniel Garbade presents a collection of black-and-white works composed of oil paintings on canvas that capture scenes of men running,
About
Through these bodies in motion, Running becomes a metaphor for the daily struggle of the LGBTQ community: the constant race for visibility, equality, and acceptance, but also personal fulfillment and the conquest of spaces of freedom.
The black-and-white contrast intensifies the emotional weight of each brushstroke, highlighting its protagonists' fragility and determination. Each painting is a frozen moment of an endless race, where sweat, muscular tension, and a gaze fixed ahead invite the viewer to empathize with the effort and hope that sustain each step.
Amid these images of bodies in flight and resistance, the figure of a young man stopped in front of a Vespa stands out, like a breath amid the race: a pause that suggests the longing for a journey of his own, the possibility of stopping without losing sight of the goal. This painting, imbued with nostalgic stillness, converses with the rest of the series to remind us that there is also freedom in rest, in contemplation, and in choosing our own pace.
True to his style, rich in symbolism and social commitment, Garbade ensures that Running speaks intimately with the spirit of Pride: celebrating diversity, honoring the memory of those who ran before, and reminding us that, even if the goal seems distant, every step forward is a shared triumph.
An artistic proposal that provokes reflection, reminding us that running, in this context, is not fleeing but resisting and claiming the right to — finally — reach the desired goal.
