About

Orsi Cowell-Lehoczky SWA and dr. Sándor Pellet: Correlation

The Fountain Gallery | 9-21 June 2020 |

Visual correspondence on art and friendship between generations, across borders and over decades. Correlating works themed around the environment as it is perceived, both in 2 and 3 dimensions. Orsi’s guest exhibitor was planning to travel from Hungary for the duration of this show and to launch his new book on his artistic career.

Under the current, unpredictable circumstances the artists decided to show their works, even behind the closed doors of the gallery - to allow for window-shopping and for the entertainment of the neighbourhood, if it is at all possible. Their plan is also to run an online exhibition from these platforms: www.cowell-lehoczky.com, Insta: @orsicowell, and FB: @orsiCowellLehoczky in the event the full close-down is still in place in June.

Dr. Sándor Pellet | The Hungarian born doctor and fine artist had started his painting career before he began his medical studies at the University of Debrecen, where he received his -first of many- degrees in 1969. Dr. Sándor Pellet is well respected as an expert in radiation protection, he worked for the International Atomic Energy Agency as well as other National Institutes and Universities in Hungary during his long career. He became a full time artist after retiring. Sándor is bringing his abstracted works of the Hungarian countryside to London: paintings that reflect a calmer, more organised and less disturbed place and time.

His art tutors were László Félegyházi and Lajos Bíró at the famous ‘Debreceni Képzőművészeti Kör’ - the Debrecen Fine Art Circle. Sándor had a long lasting involvement with the Circle, attending group exhibitions and workshops -or artists’ colonies- regularly. He is one of the founders of the well known artists group, the ‘Debreceni Műhely Alkotóközösség’ (the ‘Debrecen Workshop’ artist group) and has been a member of the Association of Hungarian Creative Artists (MAOE) since 1978. He had solo exhibitions in Budapest, Debrecen and Pomáz in Hungary, as well as exhibiting internationally. Sándor lives and works in Budapest, Hungary.

Orsi Cowell-Lehoczky | Born in Budapest (Hungary), now living in London. As the child of an oncologist-gynaecologist father, she grew up to know Sándor as a family friend, who always showed a keen interest in Orsi’s artistic development. This mentoring relationship culminated in a shared show in 2009, at a gallery in Pomáz called ‘Testvérmúzsák’. Orsi has a keen interest in environmental issues (like plastic pollution), protection of trees and green architecture. In her analytic paintings with dream-like figuralism and shifted dimensions, she often brings the human interest and the natural world into unusual contact. Her works are increasingly leaning towards abstraction and her subject is often drawn from present time events, led by a deep desire to speak up but also to escape.

Orsi’s formal education includes a diploma in professional photography, a degree in graphic arts, then a Master’s degree in silkscreen printing (MKE, Budapest, 2000). She became a member of the MAOE in 1999. She is also a member of the Society of Women Artists and was awarded for her ‘body of work’ in 2013. In 2018, her work was selected for ‘The Columbia Threadneedle Prize’ exhibition. She regularly exhibits at the Mall Galleries, London (home of the Federation of British Artists). Orsi is a member of the Fountain Gallery Artists Association: periodically presenting solo shows at Bridge Road, East Molesley.
