Corpo-Fumo (Body-Smoke) is a solo exhibition by Japanese-Brazilian artist Juliana Matsumura, curated by the Tarimba Collective.
About
The aesthetic richness of Juliana Matsumura's work catches the eye immediately. The complexity of the lines, the borders built between the tonalities and the superimpositions provoked by the use of different materials are the perfect invitation to get to know better the universe of this artist who is one of the most complete and multidisciplinary artists that the Tarimba Collective has had the opportunity to collaborate with.
The diversity of materials and techniques worked in different languages such as engraving, video, installation, and photography give form to a complex body of ideas that explore the intersections created by the meeting of dualities.
What are the points of passage between the material and the spiritual, between the natural and the artificial? What happens at the limit between memory and oblivion, between light and darkness, between the beginning and the end?
Juliana Matsumura's work invites us to reflect about inevitable transmutations, about the impermanence of things and of life, evoking relationships between themes such as nature, spirituality, and ancestry.
