About Cooltzine vol.1
Cooltzine is the extension of Cooltsalon, platform for ideas and creativity exchange in urban context. Taking form of variety of events – from guided walks to meet local creative businesses to site-specific exhibitions with international artists – Cooltsalon’s mission has been to give exposure to individual voices hidden behind the collective city life. The zine carries on the message of re-discovering the city, re-connecting and exchanging our stories as urban dwellers, in one way or another. Cooltzine is to be published once a year.
The brief for Cooltzine vol.1 was “Neglected spaces in YOUR city where you find inspiration” and it was incredible to see people from different parts of the world responding, sharing their visual stories; this first zine edition is made by 40 contributors, from early to mid-career artists, as well as self-taught multidisciplinary practitioners and amateur photographers. Contributors profiles can be found on the Cooltsalon’s page, in series of “teaser posts”: https://www.facebook.com/cooltsalonbg/
The zine launch event (aka simultaneous exhibition)
Because of the international nature of Cooltsalon as projects platform and the submitted photos and illustrations, the zine launch is to defy geographical boundaries, taking place simultaneously in 3 different cities – London, Belgrade, Sofia. This simultaneous exhibition will consist of works from Cooltzine vol.1 contributors, both the ones included in the publication and additional material, presented as a video installation of looped file projection – for one day only, 12 May. Partners: Leyden Gallery (London), Kvaka 22 (Belgrade), Cush.Bar (Sofia)
The looped projection will be on display at the Leyden Gallery from 12:00 pm. Join us from 18:00 for the “official welcome part”, with presentation of the project and live feeds from the other two cities (times synced across zones). The gallery’s artBAR will be open to ensure enough raised glasses and drinks to fuel new ideas. Visitors are encouraged to share own favourite overlooked city spaces – through stories shared in person, little notes left behind or comments online, on the event’s page.
Printed copies of Cooltzine vol. 1 will be available on the day. The 3 partner venues will be the only physical places where you can pick up an actual copy of the Cooltzine vol.1, which, following the launch event, will have a limited life as a downloadable file and then archived – giving way to the next open call for collaboration.
