The solo exhibition ‘Conversation Pieces’ at Gallery 40 brings together a collection of paintings that evoke the familiar unrest of an eclectic world of past, present and a possible future.
About
Matt Noir is a Brighton based artist who studied BA Hons Fine Art Painting at Bath School of Art & Design.
His paintings focus on the symbolic power of objects which have traversed from the once commonplace to a new iconographic status. All items depicted in the paintings have their own signifiers but also have a relationship with each other and thereby create a dialogue between themselves and the onlooker.
Storytelling is the main framework in which the paintings exist, with the aim that the objects create subjective narratives derived from their juxtaposition to each other and what the viewer brings to them.
