About
ABOUT
"CONTOURS: 10 STUDIES OF THE CIRCLE AND SQUARE," installed on the facade of the historic One Eyed Studios building, continues Minihan's exploration of Formalism.
The installation thoughtfully combines geometric and illusionary studies with the industrial facade of One Eyed Studios. By meticulously creating weatherproof paintings on this functional architectural element, Minihan invites viewers to explore and contemplate. The illusionary contours play a fascinating role, as our visual system infers edges and shapes through interaction with the geometric forms present.
BIOGRAPHY
Liam Minihan (he/him) is a Ridgewood, Queens-based painter who highlights the rarity of regular geometric forms in nature and as human constructs. He blends traditional painting methods with modern materials, including plastics, stainless steel, and epoxy.
Born in Fremont, Michigan, Minihan moved to New York City in 2012, where he first saw Rothko's "No. 10" at the Museum of Modern Art. Minihan's profound reaction to the painting jumpstarted personal explorations of the novel emotional and physical effects achievable through the interplay of shape, color, and perception.
In 2019, Minihan established his studio at One Eyed Studios, Ridgewood, Queens, where he presently works.
