Taking inspiration from Sheila Hicks’ small-scale ongoing series of ‘Minime’ weavings, this weekend workshop will be an in depth exploration of textiles in weaving with artist Hannah Waldron.
About
You will use small constructed looms in a similar manner to Hicks’ portable loom, and over the weekend create experimental samples using a range of weaving techniques. These will include but not be limited to tapestry, soumak, basketweave, yarn wrapping, stitch and twill.
You will work with both traditional natural yarns while introducing more experimental materials such as paper, metal and household items. All participants will then contribute to a ‘zine’ publication of the samples, as a document for each participant to take home.
Suitable for complete beginners and those with some prior weaving experience.
