Opening on July 8th, Contemporary Painting will present a wide range of artworks by outstanding local and international artists whom in a variety of styles are redefining painting as a contemporary practice.
About
From Brazil, Germany, India, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine and the UK, we are invited to discover with an international overview, the ever-changing practice of painting.
Ashley Collin contemplates and selects ideas as single entity’s which find their representation through the dialogue of both abstraction and geometrical, assigning them to a new visual existence. His artistic strategies emulate techniques from typical modernist art such as repetition, fragmentary composition and symmetry. His works often contain pure shapes and ambiguous forms. John Skelcher discovers amongst a beautiful landscape a more profound setting within it. He utilises modern conceptual skills and yet foster traditional notions in ways he needs. The link with the past and present is alive in the landscape, the painter must summons the ability to raise their respective spirits into brushstrokes, but first it must be recognised. John endeavours to foster this feeling throughout the painting process. In this way the viewer can be transported not only to the scene but react to the sensual response that he has created.
You are warmly welcome to join us for a drink with the artists at the opening night of CONTEMPORARY PAINTING at The Brick Lane Gallery open from 6pm-8.30pm on Wednesday 8th July 2015.
