About

in this groundbreaking, hands-on discussion and viewing with experts. Led by collector Russet Lederman, curator Christopher Phillips, gallerist Taka Ishii and private dealer Alison Bradley, this workshop focuses on the work of trailblazers who trained their lenses on vast changes precipitated by the nation's newfound role as a global economic powerhouse. Their critical investigations into urban sprawl, gender, identity and artisthood, coupled with advancements in camera technology and transformations in museum institutions, paved the way for the canonization of photography as an artistic medium in Japan and today's generation of practitioners.
