Tashkeel is pleased to announce Connectivity, an exhibition of works that question how technology affects our lives and our relationships, our working practice, and our engagement with the world around us.

Increasingly, our minds are being enriched by an abundance of information, cultures and experiences as a result of new technologies that open up access to previously unimaginable resources. Our lives and relationships are being automatically documented as we live through an age of email, text messages, virtual worlds and social media, with digital distractions affecting every aspect of life - from work, safety and communication to our relationships and health. The way our brains work means we are all too easily distracted by technology and gadgets, often relinquishing control over where we focus our attention. This influence extends to the way we make work as artists, as well as the kinds of works that we make in response to these developments and observations.

The exhibition Connectivity is a selection of works from an open call to artists living and working in the UAE. Artists of all disciplines were invited to submit works that call to question how technology affects our lives and our relationships, our working practice and our engagement with the world around us. The artworks selected serve both to encapsulate the theme and to bring out further questions surrounding what it means to be working here and now, in the context of these social and communication technologies. The exhibition also explores the potential offered by the application of new technology to reinterpret working methods of making art, whilst at the same time showing artworks that explore new and enlightening ways in which technology enhances or affects the current social environment.
