Organised in partnership with the British Compact Collectors' Society, this exhibition tells the fascinating story of the history of this essential aid to women's make-up and female glamour, from its origins in the 18th century to its continued use today. The exhibition takes us on a journey through social history and the world of beauty, from jewel-encrusted compacts produced for the aristocracy, to copies made in cheaper materials as part of the mass-market 20th century revolution in women's make-up.
