About
The Koppel Project Central is pleased to presentCommixture, a group exhibition of London based artists working across a wide variety of media, from light and sound installation to softsculpture and digital animation. Each artist plays with their materials and method to explore therelationship between themselves, their work and their environment. The works on display havebeen carefully selected by curator Sally Gorham to further extend this relationship to engagethe viewer and foster a thoughtful interaction between the eclectic mixture of colourful andvisually stimulating works. The various mediums within the show and the artists’ individualworks convey a sense of movement which infuses the exhibition with unpredictability. By bringing together such an eclectic mix of works, this exhibition demonstrates how these artists are responding to their surroundings, as a constant attempt to position themselveswithin it.
By disrupting and challenging common perceptions, the artists use their practice toexplore varying narratives of the world around them. These narratives reflect a world always in flux, where artists are continuously developing their style and identity, though a convoluted process of learning and un-learning.The playful and energetic use of materials and colour reflects a period of transition in these artists’ careers and offers the audiencea glimpse into the formation of the future. This is an exhibition of energetic and playful interactions, which will stimulate audiences andproduce new dialogues and narratives within the multifaceted world of contemporary art. Commixture offers a space for both the artist and the audience to explore themselves and their positioning within the world.
