About

We live in a world that can be wonderful, challenging  and even alarming.  Art can reveal new insights and interpretations of the issues that can enchant and intrigue us as human beings.  Here at this exhibition you are invited to enjoy and to contemplate how our world is perceived and illuminated by the artists. These works rely on an interaction between colour and material to tell their story.

Colour and Materials celebrates the world that we inhabit with intimate and individual interpretations that the individual artists bring using a wide range of media.  Each artist brings you their own unique insight into this world inspired by factors ranging from tiny details of daily life through to the natural world.  Their individual engagement with such a diverse range of sources results in a unique, thoughtful and challenging body of work.

From Christine Callow’s opulent hand pulled silkscreen prints and paper collages exploring her personal response to her travels to Lee Herring’s richly textured and multi-layered memory based landscapes, from Terry Beard’s  printed and painted textile hangings to Natalie Sirett’s  combination of egg tempera, acrylic and inks  that depict patterns and repetitions in history Colour and Material portrays the fertile and diverse aspects of the artists’ collective experience.

Colour and Materials reveals a wealth of artwork ranging from abstracted stories of scents, sounds and colours found across the globe through to poetic narratives of deconstructed forms. The exhibition is akin to a moment of confession, affirmation and delight.  These artists open up an energetic yet intimate dialogue with you, the viewer.  Art is a conversation and we would love you to join in the conversation by visiting this extraordinary exhibition.

This is a colourful and imaginative exhibition that encourages the viewer to discover and explore the creations of contemporary artists.  As with other Espacio exhibitions, the artists are actively involved with the gallery and you can expect to find several invigilating at Colour and Materials each day should you wish to find out more about the artwork.
