In this exhibition, artist-curator Eloise Dethier-Eaton will display her still life paintings alongside prints and objects from the Keate Family Arts Trust collection. Throughout, visitors will be invited to adopt a playful spirit, making connections and finding patterns between the pieces at hand.
About
The Keate Family Arts Trust (KFAT) is a domestic space dedicated to the preservation and display of a collection of mid- to late-twentieth century prints, ceramics, textiles and Private Press books, the works of its late founder David Keate and some contemporary works. In 2024, KFAT launched an ongoing exhibition series where artist-curators exhibit artworks from KFAT’s collection alongside their own work, each thus bringing their own unique perspective to the collection.
Eloïse Dethier-Eaton is an artist and curator. In her art practice, she uses the still life genre to tell the stories behind objects. She is particularly drawn to pattern – as surface decoration but also as the motif that connects disparate elements through its repetition. She enjoys seeing which dialogues emerge when objects or images are placed next to one another. In the exhibitions that she curates, Eloïse creates compelling narrative structures by making these connections between artworks visible.
The exhibition Collecting Connections will consist of Eloïse’s original still-life paintings, newly created to incorporate objects from the collection. These will be displayed alongside a curated hang of additional pieces from the collection by the likes of Elizabeth Blackadder, Georges Braque and William Scott, which will in turn be in conversation with the custom artworks. Throughout the house, visitors will be invited to adopt a playful spirit, making connections and finding patterns between the pieces at hand.
