As part of the public programme of events for PERICLO’s ‘Harness Your Hiraeth’ exhibition, we invite photographer Colin Thomas to discuss his practice with Thomas Dukes.

About

The Colin Thomas’ photographs represent an anchor point for the 'Harness Your Hiraeth' exhibition. This event offers an unique opportunity to gain an insight into his work.

Colin Thomas is a contemporary documentary photographer who has been photographing people and places for over 30 years. He lived in Wrexham in the early 1980s and was inspired by the many public events taking place in the area to produce his first body of work. This was shown in the Open Eye gallery, Liverpool, in 1984 and recently publis...hed by Café Royal books.
In 2015 his work was exhibited in Manchester’s AWOL gallery and the Shrewsbury Theatre gallery.

Thomas Dukes has been living and working in Liverpool for six years, after completing a Masters in Arts, Aesthetics and Cultural Institutions at Liverpool University. Thomas assisted curator Karen Newman in exhibitions of Mitch Epstein and Richard Mosse until joining the team as Exhibitions Coordinator for the Mishka Henner show, Precious Commodities. Having taken three years away from Open Eye Gallery working in venue and arts collective management, Thomas returned late 2014 as curator with new Open Eye Gallery director, Sarah Fisher.
Thomas holds a BA in Photography from Blackpool & The Fylde, where it became clear his interests lay more in critical studies, and (at the time) particularly the visual landscape of Freud's uncanny.
