About
Revolutions and Reactions – Modern Art from WWII to the present:
Session 3 - Pop Art, Minimalism and the rise of consumerism
The third in a series of four lectures examines Pop art and Minimalism as different reactions to the dominance of Abstract Expressionism and the rise of mass consumer culture. We examine the celebratory and critical aspects of Pop art and the challenge to established notions of modernist art initiated by Minimalism. Finally we look at some surprising underlying similarities between Pop and Minimalist art.
