About
Colin Crumplin was born 1946 in Hertfordshire and now lives in Bath and works in Wiltshire, UK. This exhibition brings together works produced over the past 20+ years, Crumplin has a conceptual approach to painting where he gives over much of the process to chance.Working in diptychs, Crumplin uses quick hand gestures in acrylic to make the abstract half, whilst wet it's folded over to create a monoprint. These are paired, often many years later with a photo-realistic oil painting based on an image either taken from the news, provided by others or a photograph taken especially which echos or mirrors the abstract half.
He has had solo shows in London, Brussels, MOMA Oxford, the John Hansard Gallery in Southampton and Arnolfini in Bristol. In 2022 he featured in Haunted Realism at Gagosian, London.
