Pedro Costa (*1958) graduated from Lisbon School of Theatre and Film. He's a winner of the France Culture Award (Foreign Cineaste of the Year) at 2002 Cannes Film Festival, and was also selected as part of 2006 Cannes Film Festival. The Guardian's Peter Bradshaw commented of Pedro Costa, calling him the "the Samuel Beckett of cinema". Many of Costa's films are known for being shot in a natural and low-key way in documentary format, or as 'docufictions'. They are often inhabited by the socially disadvantaged, and mainly set in Lisbon.
